Step 2: Remove your cabin air filter
Time to find where that filter goes. On many vehicles the cabin air filter is located behind or just below the glove box. On others, access could be through the engine bay.
If it’s not immediately obvious; your owner’s manual will reveal all you need to know.
This is where you may need those basic hand tools but if you’re lucky; you’ll just have to pop a cover off and pull the old cabin filter out.
Step 3: A quick clean up
There are probably all kinds of bugs, leaves and dust in there, so grab your workshop vac, or pinch one from the house and clear out the filter recess.
Leave the new filter out for now, close up the filter box, and following the instructions the packaging; set the can of air con cleaner loose.
This will kill any mould spores or bacteria lurking in the system, and take care of any bad smells. You don’t want to be in there while it’s at work.
Step 4: Replace the cabin filter
The bacteria are dead, the leaves are gone, everything smells fresh. Now you can pop the brand-new filter in.
Check your cabin air filter for any marks indicating the correct orientation. Some filters have a right, and wrong side up, so check your cabin air filter for any marks indicating the correct orientation.
